Conscience, 1975

And the judge said guilty
 in the first degree, and
  my attorney asked for mercy,
and the D.A. clamored for death.

And they cited my wrongs
and he threw the book at
  me and sent me to
   solitary forever and ever.

And I said that I would
 do anything but that, and
he said that it was too late,
that I should have done it before.

And the jury cried "Guilty"!
And the crowd cried "Guilty"!
And the judge cried "Guilty"!
And I cried.
